Are you using compass?

As you are aware Catholic Education Tasmania has moved to a new student record system called Compass. The Compass Program allows us to communicate with families directly through the Compass Parent Portal. The Compass Parent Portal is now our main communication tool. All parents will need to download the Compass App and ensure they are able to login.
Thank you to those families who have already taken up the Compass App and are successfully engaging with it and our school.

MrS SEAGAR's Reflection

principal

Come as you are, that's how I want you.

Deirdre Brown

Welcome to Week 9.

Come as you are
Come as you are, that's how I want you.
Come as you are, feel quite at home.
Close to my heart, loved and forgiven;
come as you are, why stand alone?

No need to fear, love sets no limits.
No need to fear, love never ends.
Don't run away shamed and disheartened.
Rest in my love, trust me again.

I came to call sinners, not just the virtuous.
I came to bring peace, not to condemn.
Each time you fail to live by my promise,
why do you think I'd love you the less?

Come as you are, that's how I love you.
Come as you are, trust me again.
Nothing can change the love that I bear you.
All will be well, just come as you are.

Deirdre Browne

The words of this song represent to me everything about who Jesus was and is: his acceptance of all and his interactions, without judgement, of those who came and come to him;  his unconditional love. He sought out the poor, lonely, discredited and excluded.  He lived out daily acceptance of those who society often excludes.

Diane Phillips rsj (https://www.liturgyhelp.com) in a reflection writes that Holy Thursday this week depicts Jesus providing us with a parable of service in action (John’s Gospel). There are seven actions that he took. Jesus rose from the table; He took off his garments; He took a towel; He tied it around his waist; He poured water; He washed the feet of his disciples; He dried their feet. Why did he do this? To show how much he loved his own. Jesus purposely got up from the table. He took off his garments, which would be torn from him on the morrow. The disciples would have been puzzled as they watched Jesus tie a towel around his waist to perform the work of a servant. Jesus poured water into a dish. The next day he would pour out his life for his loved ones. The cleaning of feet is no easy task. Washing is one thing. Drying off, especially between the toes takes time and gentleness. He accepted his disciples just as they were.

This modelling by Jesus is carried on today by many of Jesus’ followers. There are stories of Mary MacKillop (Foundress, with Father Julian Tenison Woods, of the Order of St Joseph which founded our school) also washing the feet of barefoot children the day before they made their first Communion. She wanted them to look their best on that special day in their lives. Other times she put her arms around  little barefoot children and announced that these were the children she loved. So the challenge for us, as Diane states, is: who is it that we love in a way that I would go on my knees for them? Whose feet would I find it hard to wash? How do I as a ‘vulnerable’ adult reach out to others each and every day.

Staff at OLOL, carrying on the work of Jesus, and the model set by the Sisters of St Joseph, live out this service to our students daily and accept them just as they are. They are respected and their dignity at all times is honoured.

To our OLOL families we wish you all a happy and blessed Easter.
God bless,

Carol

Psychology Cafe - No Drama Discipline
Psychology Caffe are pleased to offer an opportunity for parents/carers to bring questions and learn about responding to their child’s difficult behaviours and how to best support their child’s development. Our No Drama Discipline program is a series of 8 Thursday evening sessions, starting Thursday 15th April from 6:45pm-8pm at 22 Kind Edward Street Ulverstone. We will also be taking expressions of interest for future groups. This parenting program provides parents/carers with skills to help their child manage their emotions and behaviour. Brain based parenting aims to facilitate healthy attachment and brain development in children, so they grow up to be emotionally intelligent and resilient adults.
