Are you using compass?

As you are aware Catholic Education Tasmania has moved to a new student record system called Compass. The Compass Program allows us to communicate with families directly through the Compass Parent Portal. The Compass Parent Portal is now our main communication tool. All parents will need to download the Compass App and ensure they are able to login.
Thank you to those families who have already taken up the Compass App and are successfully engaging with it and our school.

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

2 Corinthians 5:7

Welcome to Week 6.

Catholic Education is celebrating 200 years in Australia, marking the bicentenary of the first Catholic school established in Parramatta in October 1820. The theme is ‘Faith in the Future’. Faith is defined as "A belief in God or confidence / trust in a person or thing", according to dictionary.com.

It could be said that in order to have faith in the future we need to understand the past and our present situation.

Friday last week I attended mapali Dawn Gathering in Burnie which celebrated the palawa creation story of how moinee, made Tasmania. Singers, dancers, drummers, visual artists and community members joined together to teach others about the world’s oldest continuous living culture. I certainly felt a sense of something greater as the crowd was drawn into a  physical and spiritual connection with country. The final part of mapali invited the crowd to take the message ‘stronger together’ into the future.

‘Faith in the future’ or faith for the future asks us to walk with those gone before us, whether it be those who established the first Catholic school in Australia or those who have cared for this land for thousands of years and to be stronger together in the future.

Our staff are inspired by all we have learnt from those gone before us, learning and working together, with faith in our students, who already are creating a brighter future.

Please find below the national song 'Faith in the Future' that we will be singing regularly throughout the year.

God bless,

Belinda

An invite to all OLOL Parents and Carers. If you wish to know more about the brain development of your child then join us on: March 25th in the OLOL Gym from 6:30pm – 8:30pm to hear nationally recognised Allison Davies present on neurodiversity.  A brain that can function at its best is a brain less likely to experience anxiety, overwhelm and overload, and a brain less likely to sit in survival mode. A brain that can function at its best means a child who is less likely to instigate harmful, risky or detrimental behaviours.

Fencing Works at OLOL
OLOL will be completing the final part of our school fencing project in order to be able to ensure student safety. The black mesh fencing 2.3m high will continue around the basketball courts and between the school and the church. All entry to OLOL via Steele Street will be up the main pathway.  These works are expected to take place in the First Term holidays.

Emergency Practice
In the coming weeks there will be a fire drill practice for staff and students.  This is an unannounced drill to test our response to a potential emergency situation. The school will be locked for the duration of the fire drill. The practice will be as least disruptive to student learning as possible.
