Mrs seagar's Reflection

principal

"The mission of schools is to develop a sense of truth, of what is good and beautiful.  And this occurs through a rich path made up of many ingredients.  This is why there are so many subjects – because development is the results of different elements that act together and stimulate intelligence, knowledge, the emotions, the body, and so on."
Pope Francis

Welcome to Term 3, Week 1.

It is extremely wonderful to have the students back at OLOL after their break. I trust that all families were able to take some rest and enjoy each other’s company in this special part of the world.

As a teacher it is a privilege to help young people grow socially, emotionally, physically, intellectually and spiritually; to work with them and beside them in sharing knowledge and engendering curiosity about learning. Teachers, working with a diverse range of learners every day and witnessing the immensity of growth in young people. They are able to encourage learning as a skill that is important in life for both the student and teacher. Teachers enjoy the challenge in 21st century education of designing and orchestrating complex learning tasks that provide access to learning for all.

The knowledge imparted and shared may be about Science, Maths, Religious Education or learning to read; the skills may be sports, music, or art; a student’s dispositions may be extended or consolidated or gently guided through social and emotional learning. Whatever is taught, its immensity can be a source of curiosity, wonder and excitement for the teacher and it is a reason that teachers are optimistic about life in general. Learning seems to be a human endeavour, innately part of our being. The challenging and exciting aspect of teaching is stimulating this desire to learn and encouraging students to continue to learn, so that they move beyond what they can learn from us to being independent and self-motivated learners.

In teaching the students at OLOL we are proud to be with them in their successes and challenges and to continue to support them in their learning wherever their starting point may be.

God bless

Healing Country means embracing First Nation's cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia's national heritage. That the culture and values of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders are respected equally to the cultures and values of all Australians.

The NAIDOC 2021 theme is Heal Country! This calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction. It is about hearing and actioning the aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples which are the culmination of generations of consultation and discussions among our nations on a range of issues and grievances.
It is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing cultures on the planet.

Please take the time to read these prayers that the students spoke at Whole School Prayer on Monday.

God of Peace
Today we acknowledge that God has been walking with Aboriginal and Torres Strait  Islander peoples, making His Presence known through a continuous living culture over  many thousands of years.
We pray in thanksgiving for all people who have enriched and sustained Country  since the beginning of time.
We also pray that we may continue to discover the spiritual riches of God in Country.
We pray for all members of our communities: that they may discover the spiritual riches of God and our First Nations cultures so they can pass these treasures on to younger generations. Lord, hear us.
We pray for unity in our community and culture: that the journey towards reconciliation within the Church may encourage each and every one of us to make reconciliation our story.
We ask this prayer through Christ Our Lord,
Amen
