Are you using compass?
As you are aware Catholic Education Tasmania has moved to a new student record system called Compass. The Compass Program allows us to communicate with families directly through the Compass Parent Portal. The Compass Parent Portal is now our main communication tool. All parents will need to download the Compass App and ensure they are able to login.
Thank you to those families who have already taken up the Compass App and are successfully engaging with it and our school.

Welcome back to the school year of 2021. All staff have enjoyed welcoming back the students and especially welcoming 15 new students and families to OLOL.
Research tells us that the class teacher has the biggest influence on students and their learning and we are exceptionally fortunate at OLOL to have a high standard of quality teachers. These teachers at OLOL not only love their vocation but also love the students, each and every one. Our Vision Statement: “At OLOL we are moved by the life and love of Jesus Christ and the Sisters of St Joseph to give of ourselves to ensure the flourishing of each member of our community” is reflected in the essence of everything we do as staff to serve our students, their parents and the community.
Jesus as our role model was himself highly educated. He spoke several languages; had exceptional emotional intelligence shown by his compassion and care for others and was also practical being able to apply himself to the everyday needs of those around him especially of children and the ordinary human being. Jesus gifted us the task of being physically present to live out the gospel values. A prayer of St Teresa of Avila (15thcentury) states this beautifully:
Jesus has no body now but mine.
He prays through me, works through me,
Looks through my eyes, speaks through my words,
Works through my hands, walks through my feet
And loves through my heart.
We all look forward to another wonderful year of learning and growing with the students and of continuing to build and strengthen our relationships with you: our community.
As a new initiative at OLOL, the School Leadership Team of myself, Stewart Farr, Eve Gratton and Belinda Downward will rotate newsletter reflections with you over each month.

Board Nominations
OLOL is looking for a number of parents in our community that would like to become Board members. We are looking for a range of skills and abilities to enhance our current Board members. OLOL really values the input of the Board to OLOL and would appreciate either self-nominations or nominations of those you consider would enhance our school leadership team. Please fill out a recommendation form and either drop/email this to the school office or directly to [email protected]
The School Board is a vital structure in supporting the operation of the school at a local level. In accordance with the Standard Terms of Reference for Boards of Archdiocesan Schools, the Church Trust Corporation delegates a range of functions for the Board. These include supporting the Principal across a range of governance issues such as strategic planning, local policy development and the preparation of the budget and capital works program of the school.

Kinder - Compass Parent Portal
All new Kinder families have received a letter today with login details for our Compass Parent Portal. Existing families can use their current login details to access the Parent Portal.
Parent/Teacher Goal Setting
These meetings will place on Tuesday 23rd February. We encourage you to make an appointment on the evening set aside, so that we may work effectively as partners in your child's education. Appointments can be made via the Compass Parent Portal from 3:00 pm today, Tuesday 2nd February.
Buses 2021
There are new bus routes/timetables this year. If your child is catching a bus at the end of the day, you must complete the form below. Families need to complete this form no later than 3:00 pm Friday 5th February.

Canteen Volunteers Required
Can you help by volunteering your time to help in the Canteen? Volunteers are required to have a current WWVP card.
The Canteen hours are as follows: Tuesday - Friday 9:00am - 11:30am
Role: Preparing and packing of lunches. Serving children at 1st Lunch.

Our Faith In Action

Our Lady of Lourdes School is named after Mary, the mother of Jesus, under her title “Our Lady of Lourdes”.
On February 11, 1858, Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous, a peasant girl, at Lourdes, in south of France, while she was collecting firewood. This was the first of many appearances during which Mary prayed the prayers of the Rosary with Bernadette. Mary instructed Bernadette to dig in the ground to release a spring of water, the healing powers of which continue to touch the lives of the many believing pilgrims who journey to Lourdes each year. Staff and students will be celebrating the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes on February 11 with a Mass. |
