Mr Farr's Reflection

DEPUTY Principal

Be calm and full of hope.
Saint Mary MacKillop
Well, it was a rather curious first week back for Term 4!

What started incredibly calmly, with a gentle excitement throughout the school with staff and students were eager to be back and ready for a busy but wonderful term, turned on its head by the time the weekend came around with news of a lockdown in the south of the state.

I imagine this news brought with it much anxiety and alarm, perhaps a touch of panic that our state could end up in the same position as Victoria and NSW have been in this year.  I know the supermarkets were a reflection of this!

What better time to reflect upon and truly internalise the above words by Australia's Saint, Mary MacKillop.  Be calm and full of hope.  Be calm and take it as it comes.  This doesn't mean be complacent in ensuring that you and your family are reasonably prepared for a worst case scenario lockdown, but if we dwell on the negatives the future may hold we will not be calm, we will be highly stressed, anxious parents whom our children will, unfortunately, take their emotional wellbeing cues from.  Being calm and being positive leads us to the second part of Saint Mary's quote - be full of hope.

Hope is what helps us move through challenging and difficult times, it's what reminds us there is light when we are in the dark, that there is opportunity when we see defeat, and there is something better on the other side of hard times.  Having hope is much more than simply saying or believing everything will be okay.  If we are full of hope and have truly internalised what it is we are hoping for, then we will be active in working towards it.  I hope I have a good day today, as such I am going to approach today with a positive attitude, look for opportunities to have a positive impact on others and smile (it goes a long way!).  There are of course things that we are hopeful for that are out of our control; as in I hope the Crows win the Premiership next year!  It would seem like I can't control or impact this at all, but if I truly wanted to see this happen I'd ensure I have a paid up membership and try and get along to a game or two, hence I'm actively trying to bring my hopes to life (with the way the Crows went this year we'd need a lot more than my paid membership!).

Being filled with hope, for Saint Mary MacKillop connects us to our Charism of 'Trust in God'.  We place our hopes, our trust, in God to help us work to bring our hopes to life.  I like to think that this is what Saint Mary MacKillop was referring to when she first uttered these words.  Be calm and full of hope, because although things may be difficult at the moment, we can handle them by being prepared, informed, positive and having a little trust in God.

Enjoy your week,

Stu

Class Structure 2022
As in previous years, if any parents have valid concerns for class allocation in 2022, please make a time to meet with Carol Seagar between Tuesday 12th October and Friday 5th November. Class allocation involves a variety of factors including balancing academic, social and emotional needs. Our staff are in the best position to objectively do this. We do appreciate working with you, the first educators of your child and you are welcome to meet and share any valid concerns with me as part of this process. We do state that this process does take us considerable time and discernment, therefore any parent requests received after 5th November will not be considered.
