Are you using compass?

As you are aware Catholic Education Tasmania has moved to a new student record system called Compass. The Compass Program allows us to communicate with families directly through the Compass Parent Portal. The Compass Parent Portal is now our main communication tool. All parents will need to download the Compass App and ensure they are able to login.
Thank you to those families who have already taken up the Compass App and are successfully engaging with it and our school.

Praised be You my Lord through Sister Water, So useful, humble, precious and pure.
From Canticle of Brother Sun and Sister Moon of St Francis of Assisi

Welcome to Term 2, Week 2.

The above prayer/hymn extract attributed to St Francis of Assisi was referred to at the TCEO Staff Spiritual Day I attended last Friday at Clifton Beach. The Canticle describes parts of creation as sisters and brothers to humanity. Throughout the day I was invited to reflect upon God’s gift of creation and to ponder nature as a magnificent book in which God speaks to us. St Franicis of Assisi addressed all creatures as ‘brothers and sisters’, forming one family of creation. Grade 3 students leading our Whole School Prayer on Monday reminded me again to remember the joy and beauty that surrounds us each day. Truly being present in creation gives us time to just be. I challenge you this week to just ‘be’ and appreciate the beauty of nature.

In Term 2 classes have begun attending the Parish Midday Mass as COVID restrictions have eased. Grade 1-6 students will now have the opportunity to attend Mass regularly. Parents are welcome to attend Midday Mass, Monday - Thursday, following the Parish COVID guidelines.

A reminder that our Mother's Day Liturgy will be held on Friday 7th May at 2:00pm on the top cement, weather permitting.

God Bless,

Belinda

Mother's Day Liturgy
Our Mother's Day Liturgy will take place on Friday 7th May at 2:00pm on the top cement (weather permitting). Social distancing will be in place.

National Walk to School Day (Move Well East Well)
At OLOL we encourage all parents, carers and teachers to promote and encourage safe and regular walking as a normal and positive part of every child’s day.  Our next walking event is National Walk to School Day, which will be Tuesday 11th May 2021.
Our 'Walking Bus' will meet outside the Harris Scarfe entrance in Fenton Way at 8:20am.  From here, staff members will walk with the students directly up Fenton Street, turning into Stewart Street up to OLOL.

RE Classroom News
In Kinder, students have been learning to understand that praying is a way you can talk and listen to God.
In Grade 5 and 6, students are learning to identify qualities of Jesus in others and to understand the message of hope in Jesus’ death and resurrection.

Rainbows Program
We will be offering the Rainbows Program in Term 2. This Program aims to foster emotional resilience in children following experiences of bereavement, loss and family separation.
Children will participate in a weekly session, approximately 30 minutes, in a peer support group of other children with a Rainbows Facilitator, Mrs Jodi Clements. Mrs Clements is a trained and accredited Rainbows Facilitator and staff member of our school. The program has a total of 12 sessions.
If you wish for your child to participate in this program or would like further information please contact your child's class teachers or the school office.

Tasmanian Premier's Reading Challenge - (Monday April 26 - Friday July 2)
Students from Prep to Year 6 are challenged to make reading part of their day and read 10 books in 10 weeks. Students have received a reading log book and book mark. Once completed, logs can be handed to their teacher or Mrs Marshall in the Library. All students participating in the Challenge  go into the draw to win a school visit from Hawka.  Students who complete the Challenge will receive a certificate from the Premier and go into the draw to win a $100 book voucher.

Autism and Transitions: Planning For Success Information Session
Free information session for parents and family members of people on the autism spectrum, or who show autistic characteristics. A confirmed diagnosis of autism is not needed.

Kinder 2022
A reminder to existing families if they have children commencing in Kinder 2022, please fill out an enrolment form as soon as possible as places are filling quickly.

Fencing Works at OLOL
Over the last two weeks a black mesh fence has been installed around the school. The only access to the school from the Steele Street Carpark is now via the main avenue. The fence will provide added safety for our students. Once the project is completed (we are presently waiting on a gate), we are going to trial locking the school in the evenings and on weekends for one month. This is to try to reduce the vandalism and foreign objects being left in the playground outside of school hours. If this is unsuccessful in reducing misuse and damage to the school we will return to leaving the gates open.

COVID 19 Update
Contract Tracing & TAS app
Visitors such as parents and carers can enter the school for up to 15 minutes before having to provide contact tracing details. If parents are volunteering at school, meeting with staff or attending events they must Check in using the TAS App.

Please see the information below about how to download the TAS App.

Tasmanians and visitors are required to use the Check in TAS App when they visit a range of business, organisations and events. This will help to keep ourselves, our loved ones and our community safe.
If you do not have a smartphone or are unable to use one, others in your group can check in for you on their device or staff at the premises will be able to record your contact information on their device or with pen and paper.
The free Check In TAS App is available for download from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Please go to https://coronavirus.tas.gov.au/check-in-tas/information-for-the-community for more information.
School Events
Unfortunately, due to the size of the church and school gym we are not able to have parents at Whole School Prayer or Assemblies. This is due to COVID social distancing requirements of adults in these spaces. Whole School Prayer and Assemblies will continue to be live streamed for families to watch.

Social Distancing
Reminder that all adults must observe the 1.5m separation whilst on the school site.

Medical Students
If your Child suffers from Asthma, the Office requires Asthma Medical Plans that are signed and provided by a Doctor for 2021. Please provide to the Office if required.  All other Medical plans need to be for the current year.  Could current medical plans be bought into the office as soon as possible please.
