Tommy Emmanuel
Welcome everyone to Week 3.
My wife often says that I get fixated on things - paddleboards, guitars, cars, trailers, golf - whatever it is I can't let go of it until I finally achieve or get what I'm fixated on! Or perhaps the next big thing comes along!
At the moment I'm fixated on my guitar, new guitars and everything that goes with them! As I've shared in a previous Newsletter I'm continuing to learn Jazz guitar - which I'm finding incredibly hard, but I'm still working at it, but what I am discovering through my fixation though, is inspiration. I find myself listening to podcasts, watching Youtube interviews with different guitarists and reading reviews on different gear. I'm sure there's many of you out there that do something similar! Someone that I keep coming back to is Tommy Emmanuel.
I have always found Tommy Emmanuel to be of particular inspiration. His guitar playing is amazing, yet it's his personality, flare, storytelling and the way he engages with his audience that is especially compelling. If you ever get the opportunity to see him play live I guarantee you'll have a wonderful experience, whether you're a guitarist or not! As such, for this week I thought I'd share a video of who inspires me with you. It's a rather long interview but it's broken up with multiple songs and stories that I could listen to and watch over and over again.
I invite you to have a watch / listen to the below video and perhaps contemplate for yourselves, who inspires you?

This Saturday evening our school Choir have been invited to lead Mass. This Mass will be to celebrate the beginning of Catholic Education Week, our Founder’s Day and welcome those members of our community who are participating in the Sacramental program.

2021 Devonport Basketball Primary School Tournament
The 2021 Devonport Basketball Primary School Tournament will be held at the Devonport Recreation Centre on Friday 17, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 September for Grade 1/2, 3/4 & 5/6 age groups. Please complete the Google Form at the top of this Newsletter or by clicking on the image to the right if your child is interested in participating. Registration closes 3:00pm Friday 6th August. We currently do not have enough players to field a Grade 1/2 Girls team, a Grade 3/4 Girls team or a Grade 3/4 boys team.
Soccer Canteen Roster - Saturday 7th August
Our Lady of Lourdes is rostered on to complete Canteen Duty at Soccer on 7 August. One helper per nominated team is required as per the roster and the teams allocated time slots. Please complete the Google Form at the top of this Newsletter to offer your support. It is important to note that Our Lady of Lourdes is the most represented school in the Devonport Junior Soccer competition and as such, we should be able to provide plenty of support in the canteen on our rostered day. We encourage you to support your child's club and put your name forward. Thank you to those parents that have volunteered to help in the canteen, it is much appreciated.

Emergency practice
Within the next 2 weeks we will hold an unannounced emergency practice with staff & students, to test our response to a potential scenario that staff identify a threat warranting the school go into lockdown (opposite to evacuation).
Like for fire evacuation drills, we recognised the worth to test this process. We have plans in place to make this practice as least disruptive as possible. If you have queries you are welcome to call our Safety Officer Simon Natoli on 0400 105 476.
Collection of Children
Can parents please make contact with the school if there are people, relatives or friends that are not permitted to collect children or if they come on site is a concern for families.
Kinder 2022
Enrolments for Kinder 2022 are now closed. Parents are welcome to still enrol but will have to go on our wait list. Current parents of OLOL need to enrol as soon as possible for Kinder 2022, as interviews are currently taking place.
Children's Book Week Dress Up Day - Wednesday 25th August
This year's 'Dress Up Day' will be Wednesday 25th August. Children are invited to come to school dressed as a story book character.

Wednesday 8:00am - 10:00am & 2:30pm - 3:30pm.

Medical Students
If your Child suffers from Asthma, the Office requires Asthma Medical Plans that are signed and provided by a Doctor for 2021. Please provide to the Office if required. All other Medical plans need to be for the current year. Could current medical plans be bought into the office as soon as possible please.
Merseylink Bus Safety
Merseylink have designed a Bus Safety Brochure, which includes tips on bus safety, safety rules, riding the bus, exiting the bus and tips for parents to encourage and assist students becoming aware of the importance of safety while using their services. It is essential that children and parents understand the importance of safety both as a passenger on the bus and as a pedestrian around the bus.
