Mr Farr's Reflection

Deputy Principal

Welcome everyone to Week 10.

I’m not sure about you, but I certainly feel relieved to have made it through to the end of this term!

Term 3 often feels tiring due to it being dark, cold and often rainy.  This year I have particularly found it challenging and am looking forward to a week off before starting to gear up to come back to work in Term 4.

This school holidays will be much like those earlier in the year for my family, we will do a couple of small trips away - Hobart, East Coast - but mainly take time to simply stop and be present to ourselves and each other.  During this term we have found ourselves running here, there and everywhere, which makes me feel out of balance and out of kilter.  Sometimes this is all the holidays provide for me; a chance to get back in balance.  This usually looks like doing some exercise, some gardening (pulling out weeds and trimming hedges!) walking my dog, playing guitar and hanging out as a family.  These school holidays always feel like a natural refresh anyway, with the change in seasons and weather, but they tend to be as much of a physical and mental refresh, or perhaps even 'reset' for me, as much as anything.

Term 4 brings with it a renewed excitement, energy and happiness.  I notice it in myself, in our students and often in other staff members.  The weather certainly plays a large part in this - it’s warmer, brighter and consistently clear skies allow us to get outside during school days and on weekends.  But there’s also so much to look forward to in Term 4 and so much to celebrate.

In Term 4 we have our:
  • School Swimming Program
  • Early Years Swimming Carnival
  • End of year excursions and celebrations
  • Christmas craft in classrooms and the excitement that comes with preparing for Christmas
  • Grandparent’s Day
  • School athletics carnival
  • Grade 6 graduation and celebration
  • End of year assembly

I recognise this is a very simple reflection this week, which is perhaps a reflection of where I'm at in my own mental capacity as well!  But I truly hope you are able to take time to reflect, refresh and reset, both personally and as a family, during the upcoming school holidays.

Kind regards,

Stu

Religious education NEWS

On Sunday 26th September the 107th World Day of Migrants and Refugees 2021 will be celebrated.

Being members of the Catholic Church, says the Pope, “entails a commitment to becoming ever more faithful to our being ‘catholic’. The Holy Spirit enables us to embrace everyone, to build communion in diversity, to unify differences without imposing a depersonalized uniformity. In encountering the diversity of foreigners, migrants and refugees, and in the intercultural dialogue that can emerge from this encounter, we have an opportunity to grow as Church and to enrich one another”.

Migration movements today offer an opportunity for us to overcome our fears and let ourselves be enriched by the diversity of each person’s gifts. Then, if we so desire, we can transform borders into privileged places of encounter, where the miracle of an ever wider “we” can come about.

“Welcoming, protecting, promoting and integrating, are all verbs of helpful action,” says Pope Francis. “Let us remove, one by one, those boulders that block the way of the displaced, what represses and sidelines them, prevents them from working and going to school, whatever renders them invisible and denies their dignity.”

We do appreciate working with you, the first educators of your child and you are welcome to meet and share any valid concerns with me as part of this process. We do state that this process does take us considerable time and discernment, therefore any parent requests received after 5th November will not be considered.

Policy in Focus

This week in our Policy in Focus section of the Newsletter we have attached our School Grievance Policy.  This policy outlines the expectations, procedures and processes for making and handling complaints.  Although the entire document is important, the section 'Information For Families - Parish Systemic Schools' on pages 5 - 9 is of particular importance / relevance for you as a parent in our community.
