Mr farr's Reflection

deputy principal

Welcome to Week 10!

I’m not sure whether this term has gone quickly or slowly to be honest, which probably has something to do with the amount of illness we’ve had across our staff in the second half of the term!  Either way, whether we are running, walking, limping or crawling toward the finish line, it’s upon us!

This holidays my family and I are lucky enough to be going away, hopefully to some sunshine, for the holidays.  We were initially going to go on this trip back in 2019, but postponed it, then 2020 and 2021 happened - so it’s been a long time in the works and, as such, we are all very excited to get away, relax, and disconnect from work, school, sport and home for a couple of weeks!

Being able to switch off and ‘disconnect’ from the day to day norm can be hard.  It certainly can make it easier when you physically go away for holidays but it is still important to be able to stop and invest our time and energy into something completely different.  For me that means turning emails off on my phone, putting my computer away until the second Thursday of the holiday and generally trying to create that mental space from work.  Sometimes I’m successful in this, sometimes not so much!

If you’re like me, you’re probably feeling that your children are well and truly ready for a break!  Perhaps they’re rather short with their siblings?  Tired and cranky?  Our kids are no different to us and need to have time and space away from school, not only physically but also mentally and emotionally.  No school talk over the next two weeks!

Effectively, I don't have anything deep or profound to say this week - not that I have previously!  I’m simply encouraging you all to support your children and, if you have time off over the next 2 weeks, support yourselves by having as clean a break from work / school as you can.

Take time to do the things that you know will recharge you.  What will give you energy?  Do that!  What will make you happy?  Do that!  What will bring your family closer together after a busy second term?  Do that!

Enjoy the break!

COVID-19 Update

Term 2 COVID Changes
  • The school is no longer required to inform families of COVID-19 cases in their child/children’s class or grade. This means we will no longer be sending out Compass Posts for COVID- 19 cases in the school.
  • The school will follow advice from Public Health on when to communicate to families in the case of an Outbreak.
  • We will continue to provide families with a weekly COVID-19 update in the school newsletter.

Close Contacts
Household close contacts of a confirmed case are no longer required to quarantine at home. For a close contact to leave home they must:
  • Not be symptomatic (must remain at home if they are)
  • Return a negative test each day before leaving home for the 7 days following their last contact with the confirmed case.
  • Wear a face mask in all indoor settings when outside the home. Primary students deemed to be a household close contact will not be required to wear a mask when at school.
  • Notify the School of their close contact status.
  • If they become symptomatic whilst at school to immediately return to their home.

Colds & Flu
If symptoms are mild e.g. a runny nose, there is no coughing, sneezing or a green runny nose and the person has twice tested negative on successive days for COVID-19 and the person has indicated, if asked, that they feel well then the person is permitted at school.

Provision of RATs
The school will provide 1 RAT to students when requested due to the person being symptomatic.
The school will provide 5 RATs to primary students, when they notify the school of household close contact status. Parents will need to source the additional 2 RATS for the 7 days testing as a household close contact.

Free RAT Tests for Close Contacts
  • If you are a close contact you can register for 7 free RATS by completing this form https://forms.health.tas.gov.au/220306333551040
  • If RATs are required for multiple members of a household, you can contact the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738.

We will continue to follow COVID Safe Behaviours:
  • Stay away if unwell & take a RAT/PCR Test.
  • Wear a mask inside the school.
  • Practice good hand hygiene, covering coughs & sneezes and remember to social distance.
  • Daily cleaning of high touch surfaces.
  • Exemption from testing for Covid 19; 12 weeks since person released from isolation for Covid 19.
  • Exemption from close contact for Covid 19; 12 weeks since person released from isolation for Covid 19.

This week we have had 2 positive COVID-19 test results in the school.

Thank you for your support and co-operation.

Reports
Reports are now available on the Compass Parent Portal.

Influenza A
The school has been notified of 4 positive Influenza A cases. Influenza A is highly contagious and is spread by contact with fluids from coughs and sneezes that contain the virus.
For more information please click on this link
https://www.health.tas.gov.au/health-topics/flu-influenza/what-flu.
  • If students are unwell they should only attend school if they have mild symptoms e.g bit of a runny nose.
  • For any cold or flu-like symptoms the person must test negative on two successive days for COVID-19 and indicate, if asked, that they feel well to be permitted at school.
  • They can not attend if they are coughing, sneezing or have a green runny nose.
We ask families to support us in keeping unwell children at home to stop the spread of colds and flus throughout the school.

Circle of Life
In weeks 9 and 10 of this term all classes, except Kinder will have lessons from Monique Hall, an employee of Catholic Education Tasmania who gives these lessons to all Catholic Primary Schools in Tasmania.
