Social-emotional learning is the difference-maker.
Meg Riordan, Ph.D. Education Week
Welcome everyone to Week 6.

At Our Lady of Lourdes, we recognise and value deeply the importance of our children’s social and emotional learning (SEL). Research suggests that SEL is more effective when it extends into young people’s home lives. SEL makes a difference. We know that an education that promotes SEL has a positive impact on a wide range of outcomes, including academic performance, healthy relationships, mental wellness, and more. Our approach to SEL emphasises partnerships with families and caregivers, developed through trusting relationships, a shared vision, and authentic collaboration.

The process of developing a vision helps foster a sense of shared ownership over SEL. It asks staff, students, families, and community partners to reflect on what they want for their students and their school. A shared vision is a statement of the school community’s hopes for what students will experience at school and take with them into their future.

A collaboratively developed schoolwide vision takes into account the school’s unique strengths and reflects the hopes, needs, and efforts of the entire school community. The shared vision:
  • Serves as an anchor for all that the school does to support students academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • States the school community’s hopes for what students will experience at school.
  • Provides stakeholders with a sense of collective responsibility and unity.

We are seeking your input in the co-creation of a school-wide Vision for SEL. We invite you to complete this Google form, answering the following questions;
  • What do we want all our students to know and be able to do when they leave OLOL?
  • What kind of skill-building is most important in supporting our students to reach their full potential?
  • What do we want our OLOL school community to feel like, sound like, and look like?
  • And what do students and adults need in order to learn and thrive here at OLOL?

Once we have gathered the thoughts of all key stakeholders, including; parents/caregivers, educators and children our school vision statement will be constructed and shared. We thank you in advance for your input and continue to welcome conversation and feedback.

Kind regards

Eve

Uniform at OLOL
OLOL has a uniform for the students that reflects that we are an educational community and all students are encouraged to wear the uniform with pride. All parents have, by enrolling their children at OLOL agreed to abide by the uniform policy.
Can we all ensure that:
  • Students are wearing ties.
  • Boys shirts are tucked in on the way to school, when going home, when presenting at Assembly and in Church.
  • Boys to wear a winter shirt ( see attached policy).
  • Correct black shoes are worn (see attached policy).
  • Correct sock colour (see attached policy).
  • Length of girl’s dresses to be towards the knee.
  • Minimal jewellery - see policy.
  • No beanies in classes.
  • No puffer jackets on inside.

Many students do wear the school uniform correctly and this is greatly appreciated.

A uniform infringement letter will be sent home to students who are unable to comply with the uniform expectations at OLOL.

COVID-19 Update

Term 2 COVID Changes
  • The school is no longer required to inform families of COVID-19 cases in their child/children’s class or grade. This means we will no longer be sending out Compass Posts for COVID- 19 cases in the school.
  • The school will follow advice from Public Health on when to communicate to families in the case of an Outbreak.
  • We will continue to provide families with a weekly COVID-19 update in the school newsletter.

Close Contacts
Household close contacts of a confirmed case are no longer required to quarantine at home. For a close contact to leave home they must:
  • Not be symptomatic (must remain at home if they are)
  • Return a negative test each day before leaving home for the 7 days following their last contact with the confirmed case.
  • Wear a face mask in all indoor settings when outside the home. Primary students deemed to be a household close contact will not be required to wear a mask when at school.
  • Notify the School of their close contact status.
  • If they become symptomatic whilst at school to immediately return to their home.

Colds & Flu
If symptoms are mild e.g. a runny nose, there is no coughing, sneezing or a green runny nose and the person has twice tested negative on successive days for COVID-19 and the person has indicated, if asked, that they feel well then the person is permitted at school.

Provision of RATs
The school will provide 1 RAT to students when requested due to the person being symptomatic.
The school will provide 5 RATs to primary students, when they notify the school of household close contact status. Parents will need to source the additional 2 RATS for the 7 days testing as a household close contact.

Free RAT Tests for Close Contacts
  • If you are a close contact you can register for 7 free RATS by completing this form https://forms.health.tas.gov.au/220306333551040
  • If RATs are required for multiple members of a household, you can contact the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738.

We will continue to follow COVID Safe Behaviours:
  • Stay away if unwell & take a RAT/PCR Test.
  • Wear a mask inside the school.
  • Practice good hand hygiene, covering coughs & sneezes and remember to social distance.
  • Daily cleaning of high touch surfaces.
  • Exemption from testing for Covid 19; 12 weeks since person released from isolation for Covid 19.
  • Exemption from close contact for Covid 19; 12 weeks since person released from isolation for Covid 19.

This week we have had 1 positive COVID-19 test results in the school.

Thank you for your support and co-operation.

The Gifts of the Spirit
Picture
In response to Pentecost, when the gift of the Holy Spirit was given to the Apostles, the children have been reflecting on the question:
What is your gift to the world…
The question is especially important to the confirmation candidates as they will be receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit in Confirmation.

Confirmation
On the weekend the confirmation candidates met in the Our Lady of Lourdes Church Hall with Fr Steven and Fr Jaison to continue preparing for the celebration of Confirmation and to research and look into the lives of the saints. Each child will be choosing a special saint to have as a personal devotion and will take the saints name as their confirmation name. Please keep the children in your prayers as they prepare to take this big step in their faith journey.

Have you registered for Seesaw Family?
If you haven't registered you won't be able to view any of your child's feedback.

Speak to your child's teacher today to find out how to register, login and view your child's learning journal!
Thank you to all those parents who took the time to respond to our survey in last week's Newsletter.  It was exciting to see the large number of responses that came through, which provided us a great deal of positive feedback, but also some constructive feedback.
