LEARNING & TEACHING
Our students are provided with a range of opportunities to learn. These are not restricted to the classroom, nor academic learning alone. We aim to enrich the whole child spiritually, socially, academically, emotionally and physically. This focus on the child, rather than the student, ensures we are giving the children in our care every opportunity to achieve success in all they do, and be the best they can be.

CURRICULUM AND PROGRAMS
Our school follows the Australian Curriculum to teach the subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities & Social Sciences, Health & PE, The Arts, Civics & Citizenship and Business & Economics. We use the Good News for Living Curriculum Framework to teach Religious Education, however through programs such as Making Jesus Real, and infusing our entire curriculum and way of being with the values of the Sisters of St Joseph we ensure that the Catholicity of our school is at the fore of all that we do. Our Grades 3 - 6 students go on Camps which range from an extended day camp in Grade 3 through to a Grade 6 leadership camp where each child is responsible for setting up their tent, cooking their own food and ensuring the campsite is kept clean. Our students are given opportunities for leadership through the Junior Joeys, Student Representative Council, Aussie Sport Leader Program, House Captains, School Captains, Digital Technology Team and Library Monitors.

OUR SCHOOL FACILITIES
Our school is a splendid mix of original buildings and modern facilities. Our Grade 6 cohort, Administration and staff room are housed in some of the original facilities that were planned and constructed under the guidance of Fr Donald Shaw in 1933. The remainder of our school has been built over the years, with the most recent building work happening in 2015/2016. These works have ensured our school has 21st Century learning spaces for our leaders of tomorrow.

125 YEAR ANNIVERSARY 2016 marked the 125th Year Anniversary, or the quasquicentennial of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School. To commemorate this significant occassion we created a free iBook that gathers the contents of the original Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School Centenary Magazine and content from the past 25 years into one, interactive digital book. The book aims to inspire all members of our school community to reflect upon, record and share our story. The digital book is available for download by clicking the link below. |
THE SISTERS OF ST JOSEPH Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School officially opened in January, 1891, when three Sisters took up residence in the sandstone cottage which still stands at 81 Steele Street. One room of the cottage became a school room under the direction of the first principal, Sr Francis McCarthy. Although there are no longer any Sisters of St Joseph formally working at our school, we continue to have close contact with Sr Carmel Jones, a past Principal. As well as maintaining our connection to the Sisters of St Joseph through Sr Carmel, we run our Junior Joeys program and embed the Josephite Values into all aspects of school life. |
STUDENT LEADERSHIP At Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School we seek to develop leadership attributes in each child. As such we have a number of programs and groups that children can take part in, some of these are by choice, others are by peer election or by staff selection. The formal leadership opportunities are School Captains, Junior Joeys, House Captains, Student Representative Council and Class Captain. Students who are part of these groups are given responsibility for leading assemblies, celebrations, liturgies, organising and hosting whole school events such as sporting activities, class challenges and discos, and coordinating fundraisers. Our School Captains are also given the opportunity to take part in our Kindergarten Information Evening where they give tours of our school and formally address the audience. |
VOLUNTEERING AT
OUR LADY OF LOURDES CATHOLIC SCHOOL Volunteering is a wonderful experience where giving of yourself is the reward. We invite you to give of your time and energy to assist in supporting your school community. There are many opportunities for family and friends to be involved at Our Lady of Lourdes. These could be by assisting in the canteen, undertaking classroom help, assisting on excursions and during carnivals, or simply listening to children read before school. In order to volunteer at our school, Federal Regulations require that all volunteers complete a Working With Children Registration as part of the Working With Vulnerable Persons Act. The process is straighforward, and can be completed online by clicking the link below. It is important to note that unless you have your Working With Children Registration and have it recorded at the office, you are not allowed to work as a volunteer in our school in any capacity.
