Mrs seagar's Reflection

Principal

Never see a need without doing something about it.
Mary MacKillop
Welcome everyone to Week 5.

Community is defined as a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common and we know that being part of a community is important for most human beings. As Catholics being part of a Catholic Educational Community is very important. One of the most important actions we can do in this community is ‘love one another as I have loved you’ (John 13:34-35).When we are in community “God enters into this dynamic, this participation in the web of human relationships” Pope Francis.

To be a connected community is even more important. A connected community is one that learns from each other, together in a collaborative environment both inside and outside the classroom. It is a community that has built relationships over time; that continue to evolve and strengthen. This involves all of us (students, staff, parents, and the wider community). We are connected by the desire for the students to learn in the best environment and with the best people around them.

So what are the benefits of being a connected community:
  1. When students, parents and teachers as well as the wider community feel connected there is a greater sense of belonging, school pride and motivation to teach and learn. This is evidence at OLOL on a daily basis and being able to have parents attend Assemblies, help in classes and attend Whole School Prayers enables the strengthening of our connectedness.
  2. Sharing learning goals and providing opportunities to collaborate enhances accountability across the wider community. Our new feedback model to you with rubrics and evidence of student learning is greatly assisting our collaboration as well as parent communication to the school.
  3. No student learns in the same way or at the same pace and in a connected learning network we are able to personalise these learning journeys for our students. Teacher differentiation, the support of our Student Support Team, Counsellors, Chaplain and Teacher Assistants allow this to occur.
  4. By appreciating diversity within our community we show value and dignity to all so cementing our connectedness. OLOL embraces diversity of students, families and staff on a daily basis.
  5. Every member of our community has a role to play in developing our young people  (this also includes students themselves becoming self-aware and having agency in their learning ) and so this shared responsibility also connects us all to each other.

Thank you to every member of our community for making the OLOL Educational Community both connected and special.

Uniform at OLOL
OLOL has a uniform for the students that reflects that we are an educational community and all students are encouraged to wear the uniform with pride. All parents have, by enrolling their children at OLOL agreed to abide by the uniform policy.
Can we all ensure that:
  • Students are wearing ties.
  • Boys shirts are tucked in on the way to school, when going home, when presenting at Assembly and in Church.
  • Boys to wear a winter shirt ( see attached policy).
  • Correct black shoes are worn (see attached policy).
  • Correct sock colour (see attached policy).
  • Length of girl’s dresses to be towards the knee.
  • Minimal jewellery - see policy.
  • No beanies in classes.
  • No puffer jackets on inside.

Many students do wear the school uniform correctly and this is greatly appreciated.

A uniform infringement letter will be sent home to students who are unable to comply with the uniform expectations at OLOL.

COVID-19 Update

Term 2 COVID Changes
  • The school is no longer required to inform families of COVID-19 cases in their child/children’s class or grade. This means we will no longer be sending out Compass Posts for COVID- 19 cases in the school.
  • The school will follow advice from Public Health on when to communicate to families in the case of an Outbreak.
  • We will continue to provide families with a weekly COVID-19 update in the school newsletter.

Close Contacts
Household close contacts of a confirmed case are no longer required to quarantine at home. For a close contact to leave home they must:
  • Not be symptomatic (must remain at home if they are)
  • Return a negative test each day before leaving home for the 7 days following their last contact with the confirmed case.
  • Wear a face mask in all indoor settings when outside the home. Primary students deemed to be a household close contact will not be required to wear a mask when at school.
  • Notify the School of their close contact status.
  • If they become symptomatic whilst at school to immediately return to their home.

Colds & Flu
If symptoms are mild e.g. a runny nose, there is no coughing, sneezing or a green runny nose and the person has twice tested negative on successive days for COVID-19 and the person has indicated, if asked, that they feel well then the person is permitted at school.

Provision of RATs
The school will provide 1 RAT to students when requested due to the person being symptomatic.
The school will provide 5 RATs to primary students, when they notify the school of household close contact status. Parents will need to source the additional 2 RATS for the 7 days testing as a household close contact.

Free RAT Tests for Close Contacts
  • If you are a close contact you can register for 7 free RATS by completing this form https://forms.health.tas.gov.au/220306333551040
  • If RATs are required for multiple members of a household, you can contact the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738.

We will continue to follow COVID Safe Behaviours:
  • Stay away if unwell & take a RAT/PCR Test.
  • Wear a mask inside the school.
  • Practice good hand hygiene, covering coughs & sneezes and remember to social distance.
  • Daily cleaning of high touch surfaces.
  • Exemption from testing for Covid 19; 12 weeks since person released from isolation for Covid 19.
  • Exemption from close contact for Covid 19; 12 weeks since person released from isolation for Covid 19.

This week we have had 3 positive COVID-19 test results in the school.

Thank you for your support and co-operation.

Pentecost - is the birthday of the Church
Pentecost Sunday recalls the time when the Holy Spirit came down on the Church, it marks the end of the season of Easter. The Pentecost story tells us what happened to the whole community of Jesus’ followers who were gathered in Jerusalem after Jesus’ death and resurrection. The disciples were given gifts from the Holy Spirit in the form of tongues of fire to help them to go out to the wider world and to spread the Good News and be people of peace. Pentecost completes what Jesus came to do.

Pentecost also continues to remind us that, both in our personal lives and society, God does not do everything at once, but works in stages. When we do things in stages we know that saying please, waiting and saying thank you are essential parts of our relationship with God and with one another.
