Our Sacramental students are taking a meaningful step toward Confirmation and First Communion as they celebrate their Welcome Rites and receive the Our Father. This moment is more than a ritual gesture. It is the Church placing into their hands the prayer Jesus taught, a prayer that shapes our identity as God’s children and reminds us who we are called to be.

This weekend’s Gospel invited us to trust that God is present in the ordinary rhythms of our lives and to notice the quiet ways the Spirit works in us. These themes sit beautifully alongside the journey our students are making. Confirmation strengthens the grace first given in Baptism and calls them to step forward with growing maturity as they prepare to be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit. As a school community we walk with these young people as they learn to listen for the Spirit’s guidance.

I have recently read Ben Crowe’s Where the Light Gets In. His reflection on redefining success by noticing our “wins” has stayed with me. He reminds us that success is found in the small, human moments that show courage, effort or growth. For us as parents and educators, this perspective matters. A “win” might be a child who loses a sporting match but holds their head high, who takes responsibility when they have done something wrong, who tries again after a setback, chooses kindness when it is hard, shows honesty, or manages a tricky emotion. These moments rarely make a headline (or newsletter!), yet they are the ones that build resilience and a strong sense of self.

Learning is not linear and childhood is not a straight path. When we recognise the “wins” in our children’s days we help them feel seen and valued and we remind them that success grows from the inside out.

There have been lots of “wins” so far this year at Our Lady of Lourdes - some of my wins are when I receive a beautiful morning greeting from a student, a quick chat with a parent or when we can share a quiet moment with a staff member.

Together in faith,

Emily.

Late arrivals after 8:55am
Regular morning routines help us maintain accurate attendance records. If your child arrives after 8:55am, please ensure they are signed in at the office. Teachers complete the roll before heading out to Daily PE, which is when our school day begins. To keep our attendance accurate, please avoid dropping your child directly to Daily PE after this time and sign them in at the office before they join in the session.

Tasmanian Premier's Reading Challenge - 22 June - 30 August
The Premier's Reading Challenge commenced Monday. Reading logs and bookmarks have now been given out to students.
Every year, thousands of students across Tasmania participate in the Premier's Reading Challenge. The Challenge encourages personal goals over 10 weeks, embracing diverse formats, including recommended books.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is a personal challenge – not a competition. What’s your best reading tally? Can you beat it?
If you figure out what you love to read, reading will be easier – so try reading different things – fiction, non-fiction, blogs, comics, poetry, lyrics, essays, magazines, newspapers… it all counts in the PRC.
This is a challenge for all Tasmanian students. It doesn’t matter what your reading level is, everyone can take part.

Reading is a skill we need for life.  All the reading you do in this challenge will help you at school and at home.
