Encouraging Participation in School Sports and Nurturing Sportsmanship
At our school, we firmly believe that sport is more than just physical activity, it’s a powerful tool for building character, developing social skills, and strengthening school spirit.

As we move through Term 3, we’re proud of the many students who are taking part in school-based sporting opportunities, whether that’s inter-school competitions, PE lessons, or lunchtime games. Participation in sport helps children develop teamwork, resilience, self-discipline and a healthy understanding of both success and setbacks. Importantly, it also provides a platform for making friends and feeling connected to the broader school community.

One of the most valuable aspects of school sport is the opportunity it provides to teach and model sportsmanship. This goes beyond shaking hands after a game, it’s about learning to be humble in victory, gracious in defeat, respectful to opponents and encouraging toward teammates. These behaviours are deeply aligned with our school values and play a key role in shaping the kind of people our students are becoming.

We encourage families to support these values at home by:
  • Talking about the ‘how’ not just the ‘what’ – Ask children not just if they won, but how they played, how they treated others and what they learnt.

  • Celebrating effort and attitude – Praise sportsmanship, teamwork and resilience as much as goals scored or games won.

  • Reinforcing respect – Remind your child that referees, coaches and opposition teams all play an important role and deserve our respect, win or lose.

When families, staff, and students work together, we create sporting environments where every child feels safe, supported, and inspired to grow. Let’s continue to cheer on our students not only for their performance, but for the people they are becoming through sport.

Premier's Reading Challenge (June 16 - August 24)
The Premier's Reading Challenge has finished. All completed reading logs must be handed into Mrs Marshall in the library by Thursday 28th August. 
Students who complete the Challenge and hand in their reading logs will be awarded certificates and go into a school prize draw.

Father's Day Breakfast - Monday 8 September
Our Father’s Day Breakfast will be held on Monday 8th September, from 7.30 - 8.30am in the McCarthy Centre.
*Orders are now open in the QKR App.

When placing your order:
  • Please place 1 ORDER ONLY per family, for everyone attending.
  • Please place the order under the ELDEST CHILD'S NAME.
  • Upon arriving at the breakfast, please approach the appropriate desk (Kinder - 2 or Grade 3 - 6) and collect your order form.
  • Then approach the servery with your form and collect your breakfast.
Orders will close Monday 1st September at 9.30am.​
*Strictly no late orders will be accepted.

Road Safety Reminder - Drop off/pick up Zone
We ask for your continued support in keeping our school community safe during drop-off and pick-up times.
Please be reminded that blocking Steele street is against road rules and creates unsafe conditions for our students, staff and wider community. Traffic must flow freely at all times to prevent congestion and ensure the safety of all road users.
To support a safe and respectful environment:
  • Always follow road safety rules and signage
  • Show courtesy to other drivers, pedestrians and school staff
  • If the entry to the pick-up zone is not clear, please drive around the block rather than stopping in the street
  • Students waiting in the designated pick-up zone are supervised by staff, so there is no need to rush or block traffic
*Tasmania Police will be conducting road traffic checks in the area, and infringements may apply to those not following the road rules.
Let's work together to model respectful road safety and keep our community safe.

​Vinnies School Essentials Program
Vinnies School Essentials Program runs for the whole school year and is available to anyone that is finding things tough.
We can help with Uniform, Sports shoes, bag, lunch boxes, drink bottles, sports rego, camps and other things that benefit a child's education.
  • Kinder to grade 6 up to $150.
  • Grade 7 to 12 up to $250.

Mass with Fr. Ashan: A Lesson on Kindness
Last week, our Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students had the opportunity to attend Mass with Fr. Ashan. The theme for the Mass was "Kindness", where students listened to Scriptures highlighting how Jesus demonstrated kindness to others.

Fr. Ashan engaged the students with an entertaining homily that included a small science experiment to illustrate the impact of kindness. 

He began by placing an egg in a glass of water, explaining that without kindness, people can feel sad and may "sink", just like the egg at the bottom of the glass. Next, Fr. Ashan added salt to another glass of water to symbolise "kindness". His message was clear: kindness lifts others up! Just as the egg floated in the salty water, our acts of kindness can help others shine with happiness and gratitude.

To conclude the Mass, our students presented beautifully decorated hearts at the altar, representing their commitment to having kind hearts, words and actions towards others.

It is positive to see our Early Childhood students making a special effort to demonstrate their kindness in our classrooms and playgrounds!

Devonport Junior Soccer – Season Extension
Due to wet weather on Saturday, 26th July, the games originally scheduled for that day will now be played on Saturday, 30th August.
Please refer to the original 26th July roster for game times and ground allocations as well as canteen roster information.
