Dear Parents and Caregivers

We hope that you enjoyed the long weekend. It was nice to see a glimpse of warmer weather!

Our Principal group recently engaged with the eSafety Commissioner in some training about current and evolving policy, risks and opportunities in the online world. 

As our children grow up surrounded by technology, learning to navigate the online world safely is an important part of their development. The eSafety Commissioner is Australia’s national authority on online safety and offers a wide range of trusted, practical resources to support parents, carers and educators.

We encourage all families to visit the eSafety Commissioner website -- www.esafety.gov.au - where you’ll find guidance, tips and tools to help children have safe and positive experiences online.

Some key resources worth exploring include:
  • eSafety Parents
    The dedicated Parents Portal -- www.esafety.gov.au/parents - provides easy-to-understand advice, videos and downloadable guides on topics such as screen time, online gaming, social media use and starting conversations about online safety at home.
  • Social Media Age Restrictions Hub
    A useful tool that clearly outlines the minimum age requirements for popular social media and online platforms. This helps parents make informed decisions about when children are ready to engage with apps like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Snapchat.

    Clear information about how to report and address online issues such as cyberbullying, image-based abuse or harmful online content and how the eSafety team can provide assistance.

Blue Day Fundraiser - Wednesday 5th November
​On Wednesday 5th of November, our students and staff are encouraged to wear denim and bring along a gold coin donation in support of Diabetes Australia in Tasmania.
We kindly ask you bring a gold coin if you plan to wear something blue. 
We’ll also be adding some extra fun with sponge throwing!
For a gold coin donation, students can throw three sponges at staff (yes, really!) - all for a great cause!
We’re fundraising to help Diabetes Australia create a future where diabetes can do no harm.
Right now, more than 1.5 million Australians are living with diabetes — together, we can help make a difference through:
  • Raising awareness
  • Funding vital research
  • Supporting DiaBuddies youth programs
  • Helping those in need
Let’s show our support and stand together for those living with or at risk of diabetes. Every donation, no matter how small, helps!

​OLOL Volunteers Afternoon Tea - Wednesday 5th November (2:00 - 2:55pm)
At OLOL, we’re so blessed to have such a generous community of volunteers who give their time, hearts and helping hands in so many ways - from classrooms to carnivals, canteens to celebrations and sports. Every smile, story and small act of kindness helps make our school the special place it is - full of care, connection and community spirit.
We’d love to celebrate our amazing OLOL volunteers with a special Afternoon Tea on Wednesday, 5th November (2:00 - 2:55pm)

​Premiers Reading Challenge 
The 2025 Premier’s Reading Challenge has finished. More than 31,000 students from 139 schools participated in the 2025 challenge.
Thank you to all of the parents, family and friends who encouraged students with their reading during the challenge. Certificates have arrived for students who completed the Challenge and will be distributed to classes this week.
Scholastic Book Fair
Thank you to all the students and parents who supported our very successful book fair. Funds raised will be used to purchase much needed literacy resources for the OLOL Library.
The first shipment of backorders have arrived and will be distributed to students this week.

Nativity Play - Sewing Volunteers Needed!
The Mersey Leven Parish and the Catholic Schools need help to make costumes for the up coming Nativity play on Christmas Eve at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church. The costumes will be for the children from Catholic Schools and the Parish who will be acting in the play. Costumes we have are beginning to wear out and there is not enough. We would greatly appreciate your help to sew simple gown like costumes.

​OLOL Orientation Day
Our Lady of Lourdes students will participate in our internal Orientation Day on Wednesday 3rd December.
This special day provides an opportunity for students to meet their 2026 teacher and classmates in a relaxed and welcoming environment. 
Students will spend time in their new classroom from 9:15am to 1:15pm, beginning to build relationships that will support a smooth and confident transition into the new school year.
Please note: This date does not coincide with St Brendan-Shaw College’s Orientation Day for students commencing Year 7 in 2026. 
Our Grade 6 students will be located in an alternate space and will act as helpers throughout the day, supporting younger students with adjustment and change as they settle into their new environment.
At the conclusion of the day, parents will be notified via Compass regarding their child’s class placement for 2026.
We look forward to partnering with you and your child to foster continued growth and learning throughout 2026 and beyond.
